Aside from the great resources so we can call stay even keeled despite our wildly awful political environments in the US and much of Western Europe, the resource you shared that is a simple calendar worksheet for daily planning, may be my most favorite tool to date! You managed to simplify the Eisenhower Matrix that I see everywhere. Thank you!
Thanks so much for calling out Elon Musk's heil salute. Yikessssssssss. The Anti-Defamation League's response is so creepy: they said don't worry about it! Let's worry about student protests against Israel's genocide of Palestinians, but let's not worry about actual Nazis in our administration. (Paraphrasing of course.) As a disabled queer trans Jew, I really don't want to give Elon Musk the benefit of the doubt. Preparing to call my grandmother, a survivor of the Holocaust, and see how she's doing with all this.
The ADLs response was puzzling and alarming AF. But then again, basically all of their statements over the past 18 months have missed the mark. So many people spent last week defending Elon's "salute" and then he turned around and spent the weekend speaking (virtually) to an AfD (Germany's far-right party) convention in Frankfurt. Where he told a room full of hopeful Fascists to no longer feel guilty about what generations before them did?! Like...he's not even trying to hide it a little bit.
I also always felt very unsettled about his desire to rename Twitter to "X" because...well....X is pretty damn close to a you-know-what and I fear it's all part of his plan to turn it into a global communication tool for Fascists. They saw how grassroots movements were mobilizing on it (Arab spring, Ferguson, BLM, George Floyd etc) and realized how powerful it was.
WHAT A NIGHTMARE. Makes me wanna flip over tables.
wowwww. I've been ostriching hard and didn't know any of that first paragraph -- except the ADL, which has always been a problem (and, as we say, they're "bad for the jews" just like that new Netflix show starring Kristen Bell). But "he's not even trying to hide it" is such a headline.
I believe there are two lessons people tend to learn from Big Trauma like the Holocaust and other genocides: "Never again for us" or "Never again for anyone". Most of my family tends towards the first, and my immediate family is devoted to the second. Flip some tables for me <3
I thought that show was horrible so I'm glad I'm not alone --- I know so many people who loved it and I thought it was super boring. Would love to read more about the problematic aspects if there are any articles you recommend!
I know of no articles, yet -- but me and my two closest (queer, ex-Zionist) Jewish friends have been texting about it. They both kind of nudged me into watching it so I could rant with them! FWIW "shiksa" is a slur and it's horrifying how comfortably they say that word.
My take is that when Jewish nationalism wants a boost, they make shows like this. They mention Israel casually because Zionism is just part of Jewishness, right? (Nope.) The creator of the show is basically the KBell character, she was a WASP (a much better word for her) who married a Jew and this is the story of how iiiiiinteresting and exoticcccc her husband and is world are to her. All the Jewish women in the show are awful charicatures (sp?) and Adam Brody and Kristen Bell are such cuties and I have nostalgia from their time on the CW/WB/etc, and it's a shame to see them do this. Kind of like when Alyson Hannigan was in How I Met Your Mother, where they used slurs like "tranny" and "fatty" and broke my Buffy-loving heart.
Okay I might need to write my own article about Nobody Wants This. If I do I'll let you know!
I had Icelandic soup in the little cafe/shop at the geysers - it was delicious and I still think about it, too! Thanks for sharing this recipe, I can’t wait to make it. (Also, if you enjoyed that, we had a seafood chowder in New Zealand that was excellent at the Cadrona Hotel and we made it for Christmas Eve in 2020 to bring us back to a happy memory at that point in time. Recipe here if you like: https://www.foodlovers.co.nz/recipes/cardrona-chowder.html
Ooo that looks VERY good. Honestly never thought "fish soup" sounded that appetizing but it is, indeed, amazing. Thanks for sharing, Nora! Gonna give that a try sometime soon. 🧡
I think about it all the time. SO GOOD! There's a little Icelandic Cafe in Copenhagen and one day I walked by and their special was fish soup! Haven't seen that again but they have Icelandic Lamb Soup on their daily menu.
Thanks for your phenomenal work, Dani.

Thank you, Shannon! I'm so happy to hear that The Daily Schedule Creator has been a valuable tool for you. I appreciate the kind feedback 🧡✊🏻

That graphic is my favorite thing I’ve seen all week. Bring on the longer days ☀️
I have some Icelandic soup when we were in Reykjavík and I still think about it every time it's bone chilling cold here in WI. (Which is often)
