THE WEEKLY PAGE 📝 No. 241
Darkest weeks of the year + what to read, watch, listen to and enjoy...
In Denmark we talk a lot about the light (or lack thereof) — From November until right now we have *very little* of it…but we’re getting more and more all the time and come summer we’ll have very longggggg summer days (18 hours of sunlight!).
Tomorrow will mark the end of the “darkest 10 weeks of the year” which spans from 5 weeks before the winter solstice to 5 weeks after…and I don’t know about you, but I’m certainly ready for a little energy shift.
Have a restful weekend,

📚 READ: I’m sure you’ve seen the courageous video of Rev. Mariann Edgar Budde who this week took a stand and made a plea for Trump to “have mercy on those who are scared right now.” Trump, of course, took to the internet to whine about her “nasty tone”. Anyone with functioning ears can watch the video themselves and experience the kindness with which she delivered her entire speech (the “controversial” part starts around the 6:30 mark). I was thrilled to find out she has a book — and even more thrilled to hear it has sold out nearly everywhere. Was also not surprised to find out she’s a former Minnesotan (you betcha!). Grab a copy if you can, or even better — put in a request with your local library to carry it. Try googling the name of your library plus “purchase request” or “suggest a purchase” to see if they have an online form, otherwise ask them in person.
Bonus: if there’s one thing I know about being a woman on the internet, it’s that Rev. Budde is likely to face a torrent of hateful comments in the days to come. Take a minute to leave her a kind message on one of her Instagram posts. And if you need more reasons to love her, read the role she played in laying Matthew Shepard to rest after more than 20 years.
📺 WATCH: Did Elon Musk do a Nazi salute following the presidential inauguration? OF COURSE HE DID. It is wild wild wild to me that American media seems to be questioning the gesture or his intent (Germany seems pretty clear about it). There are also only two things that should matter:
Has Elon Musk clearly stated that it wasn’t a Nazi salute and apologized? No, he has not.
Do Nazis think he did a Nazi salute? Yes, they sure do.
Does the Lemkin Institute, a global leader in genocide prevention, think it was a Nazi salute? Yes, so much so they issued a Red Flag Alert for the USA.
I’ve also realized that many Americans aren’t aware of how Musk has been meddling in European elections in an effort to promote right-wing parties and ideologies! It should go without saying that his efforts to destroy Twitter and promote transphobic and sexist policies is also a RED FLAG that the guy. is. an. extremist. Was happy to see Bernie Sanders put out a video this week that explains Musk’s interference around Europe and what it says about US Democracy:
🎧 LISTEN: This episode auto-played when I was at the gym earlier this week but ended up being super insightful despite the fact that I am not raising teens. Dr. Lisa Damour was an advisor on the animated films Inside Out (1 and 2!) and I just loved hearing that logic and insight applied to how teenagers behave and perceive the world. If you’re raising teens (or will be!) I’d encourage you to give it a listen.
🧡 ENJOY: A couple years ago we did a road trip around the entire coastline of Iceland (it was incredible!) and near the end of the trip we spent a night in Drangsnes — up in the Westfjords! It was there that I had Icelandic Fish Soup for the very first time and I have not stopped thinking about it since. I have never found a recipe online that seems to match what I had at a tiny hotel in that town but this one looks close and has me very intrigued!

Aside from the great resources so we can call stay even keeled despite our wildly awful political environments in the US and much of Western Europe, the resource you shared that is a simple calendar worksheet for daily planning, may be my most favorite tool to date! You managed to simplify the Eisenhower Matrix that I see everywhere. Thank you!
