My AI Ethics Guide + what to read, watch, listen to and enjoy...
This article was in “the works” for a few months, but this week I finally published my AI Ethics Guide. I know this is a conversation a lot of us are having with ourselves, in our homes, and at our places of work right now and I hope that organizing some of my thoughts and research for you can be helpful.
It’s a long post, but I tried to organized it into clear sections. Here’s a “table of contents” for the guide:
👀 What Forms My Opinion - A bit of background on the decade I spent working in social media and how it is impacting my feelings on AI.
🗺️ Where I Go From Here - Why I think being actively involved with AI is the right choice for me.
🏅 My Top Two Takeaways
✅ My 10 AI Guidelines
✨ Additional Ideas I’m Exploring
👩🏻🏫 Who I’m Learning From - A list of the activists, experts, podcasts, documentaries, books, articles and other resources I’m turning to.
📚 READ: Protests in Albania have continued to grow this week, with reports that last night’s protests were the largest so far. Albanian’s are taking to the streets to protest the sale of protected lands to Ivanka Trump and Jared Kushner for the development of a resort. This article from Forbes has some recent updates, and last week’s newsletter had more of the island’s history and background.
📺 WATCH: If you like Survivor or other survivalist reality shows, you’ve gotta check out the latest season of Outlast on Netflix. Episode three might have been one of the craziest things I have ever seen on reality television. Here’s the season trailer:
Help a Minnesota mother with legal fees:
Thank you to everyone who was able to make a donation to this GoFundMe effort so far — they are over halfway to the $3,000 goal to help cover legal fees for their 19-year-old son who was detained by ICE on May 22nd. You can make a donation and read more about their story here (click “read more“ for their story in English). Thank you for helping or sharing!
🎧 LISTEN: Downstream has two episodes with Karen Hao, author of Empire of AI, that were recorded one year apart. I listened to the latest interview this week and it was wild how fast the industry has advanced in the year since she was last on the show. I especially liked the segment where she talked about how effective resistance organizing has been so far — resulting in notable impacts like over $100 billion dollars in data centers being stalled. You can listen to the entire episode below, or that specific segment in this Instagram reel.
🧡 ENJOY: I can’t get behind the trend of putting cottage cheese in everything (ice cream?! come on) but I can confirm that that this Cottage Cheese Green Goddess Dip is indeed delicious. I added one fresh jalapeño for a little kick 🫏
