If you could wake up tomorrow and be really good at JUST ONE of the following habits, which one would you choose?!
🥗 Eating healthy, nutritious food for most meals.
💦 Being properly hydrated most days.
🚶🏻♀️ Walking at least 12,000 steps most days.
😴 Getting 8 hours of sleep most nights.
If I got to choose for you, I’d pick 💦 “B”, being properly hydrated most days. Because improving your hydration can make it easier to build and sustain those other habits – better sleep, choosing nutritious foods, moving more!
How does this happen? Lemme tell ya.
🥗 Your hydration level impacts your hormones. Hormones are in charge of your hunger and fullness cues (ghrelin and leptin!). When you’re properly hydrated, it is easier to make balanced food choices.
🚶🏻♀️ Hydration has a direct impact on our energy level. When we feel more energized, we move more! It’s also vital for building muscle and cushioning our joints and tissues to avoid injury.
😴 Hydration improves our sleep quality. Going to bed hydrated helps you fall asleep and stay asleep by regulating your core body temperature, and aids in the removal of cellular waste so you wake up feeling great.
If you know me at all, you know I’m all about efficiency. That’s why I love helping people implement hydrating habits…because that simple shift can lead to so much more.
On September 14th I’ll host a 14-day workshop to help you gently develop habits for proper hydration! Mark your calendar, more details coming soon.
📚 READ: I mention this book every year around this time because its one of my favorite cozy, fall reads. Shotgun Lovesongs is set in small town Wisconsin, when a famous musician returns to his home town. Get a copy here.
But I also read a lot of great articles this week! Here are some highlights:
US medics who volunteered in Gaza demand arms embargo over ‘unbearable cruelty’ inflicted by Israel from The Guardian
What Happens if Trump Tries to Steal the Election Again by
Gwen Walz, the Coolheaded, Ultracompetent Political Spouse from The New York Times
Kamala Harris: ‘What Kind of Country Do We Want to Live In?’ from Rolling Stone
As a former IDF soldier and historian of genocide, I was deeply disturbed by my recent visit to Israel from The Guardian
162 lies and distortions in a news conference: NPR fact-checks former President Trump from NPR
📺 WATCH: This week the Harris Walz campaign quietly promoted a casual sit-down interview between the two of them on YouTube. I’m hoping this is a series that they will continue through election day. This one went live last night, and does a great job capturing their playful dynamic and skillsets. Watch it here.
🎧 LISTEN: I was a little late to the Chappell Roan party, but after listening to her Midwest Princess album over and over I am still struck by the pure quality of not just the vocals (her tone!) but the lyrics. Every song is beautifully written start to finish. I think that’s even more obvious when you observe the wide range of artists covering her music, like this cover of “Good Luck Babe” by Josiah and the Bonnevilles:
🧡 ENJOY: This year we are traveling back to the US and will get to enjoy a traditional Labor Day “at the cabin” (midwesterners know what I’m saying!). It’s something we used to do every year, but haven’t gotten to do as often since moving abroad. I’m already researching dip recipes for the weekend, like this Mexican Street Corn Dip from Half Baked Harvest.
