Last week we officially said farewell to our furry companion, Walter. While it was one of the most difficult days of my life, this week I felt a grateful, renewed sense of purpose and clarity.
I think this is partially because I was able to grieve and process the loss in the months leading up to it. And also because the stress and grief of it all was weighing heavily on me the past few months in ways that I didn’t really notice until it was lifted.
But most of all, because one of the last things I said to him was that I will be okay. That I’ll keep trying to do good things and make a difference. That I’ll live the best life I can, for him.
So…here I am. Moving forward knowing how lucky I was to have him by my side the past twelve years. What a gift.
I have many thoughts on what it was like to lose him, and plenty of resources to share with those of you who will someday be in this position. I’m organizing all that into a dedicated post that I hope to share in the weeks to come.
📚 READ: When is the last time you discovered new music? This is something Josh and I talk about a lot, because we have always loved discovering new music and wondered when that’d stop? Or when it would stagnate? Or when we’d feel like our taste had completely diverged from popular culture? I came across this article, When Do We Stop Finding New Music? A Statistical Analysis, from
recently and thought it was really interesting. Read it here.📺 WATCH: I haven’t mentioned it lately — but some of you might know that I am really obsessed with octopus 🐙 I am totally, helplessly enthralled by these creepy little ocean aliens. My friend Cal sent me this documentary series narrated by Paul Rudd and we started it this week. It’s so well done and absolutely mesmerizing. It’s form Nat Geo and you should be able to find it on Hulu or Disney+. Watch the trailer:
🎧 LISTEN: Quick reminder that my podcast returned at the beginning of the year! I’ve been publishing one episode per month — most featuring some of my favorite authors and experts. You can find all the episode here, or search for “The Plan Podcast with Dani Bruflodt” wherever you listen to podcasts and subscribe. If you download the Substack App you can get new episodes (along with this newsletter!) right to your phone or tablet.
🧡 ENJOY: Carbonara is one of my favorite things, and trying to make a *perfect* carbonara has become somewhat of a hobby in this household. I recently came across this YouTube video in which Italian Chef Monosilio walks you through his exact recipe and I cannot wait to apply what I learned. If you, too, are always chasing the perfect carbonara you can check it out right here.

So sorry for your loss 😞
I am so sorry for your loss, I have snuggled with my fur babies more lately. I am glad you know that you will be okay - but why is the email early this week??? I look forward to reading it on Fridays (did I miss something?).
