THE WEEKLY PAGE 📝 No. 208
When we have to say goodbye + what to read, watch, listen to and enjoy...
Our dog, Walter, was diagnosed with bladder cancer in the fall of 2022. After initially being given 4-8 weeks to live, he ended up with a slightly better prognosis and has surprised everyone by going strong 18 months later.
It’s difficult, because he looks good, has great energy, and is mostly a very happy guy. But the cancer is progressing and the level of care required has increased drastically over the past 6 months.
We had to make the devastating decision to pick a date for our farewell.
We’ll be saying goodbye to Walter on April 24th, which nearly kills me to type…and for those of you who remember when we brought him home, or our countless adventures around the world…I know you know how much pain we’re in at the moment.
April 24th will be his 12 1/2th birthday. It will also mark 6 years since we moved to Denmark. That little Wisconsin dog has lived quite an adventure, and I know in my heart that this is the right decision, even if it feels impossible to imagine a life without him in it.
To be honest, I’ve felt a bit better since we made the decision. I can finally focus on making the most of the next 19 days and I feel more present. We’ve even made a bucket list (you know I love a good list).
Many of you left advice and kind words on this post. I’ve been reading through them when I can and have found all your words helpful and comforting. Thank you for being here for us.
On a (somewhat) related note — I’m super excited about two programs I am running this summer — and the best way to hear more about them + stay in the loop is to get on their launch list. I’m not 100% sure how I’ll be showing up on Instagram or elsewhere over the coming weeks, but I will be sending updates to these email lists. Here’s a bit more about these two programs:
💻 THE PODIA BUSINESS LAB - Overwhelmed by the time and cost required to start an online business? I’ll break it down and make it super simple (and affordable!). We’ll develop your branding, launch your website, and make sure you know how to create digital downloads, online courses, webinars, consulting packages, newsletters + more. Get on the launch list.
🧠 THE EXTENDED BRAIN - Information, notes, and documents all over the place? I’ll walk you through setting up specific systems for organizing all your digital information to extend your memory, intellect and efficiency. Get on the launch list.
Thanks for hanging with me through this. I’m gonna be alright.
📚 READ: My “to-read” list is so long right now but The Five Resets by Aditi Nerurkar, MD came highly recommended from someone whose recommendations have never failed me so I had to move it up on the list. While I’m a firm believer in addressing the largely systemic issues that cause most people’s stress, it never hurts to know what we can do to alleviate how our body responds to it. Check out the book here.
📺 WATCH: I’ve fallen for for the promo campaign, guys. I’m gonna have to go see this movie when it comes out next week. Plus, Nick Offerman as the President of the United States of America? Just pass me the popcorn already. Although it’s technically a “dystopian” film…the plot seems pretty plausible to me (*nervous laughter*). Watch the trailer here.
🎧 LISTEN: You know I am nothing if not consistent…and when I find something that works for me, I use it forever. I bet I’ve been using Noisli for a solid decade+ at this point. I use it at night if I need some background noise, and I love the coffee shop option when I’m working. It’s just a simple, minimalist, user-friendly interface that does what it’s supposed to. I have the app on my phone, but also love their desktop version when I’m trying to focus.
🧡 ENJOY: I recently subscribed to “What to Cook When You Don’t Feel Like Cooking” by
and have LOVED getting her simple recipes right in my inbox. She has started sending out these “Really Simple Meals Plans” that come with PDF shopping lists and DEAR LORD — the internet feels good again. See her latest meal plan here (and subscribe while you’re there!).How I can help you:
💻Take my self-paced online course, The Daily Method.
📝 Shop my planners and calendars.
🔽 Browse all my free downloads.
📊 Check out my spreadsheets and digital tools.
📅 Plan with me virtually during my next Monthly Review Day w/ Q+A (April 8th!).
We never have enough time with them. Hope your last two weeks with your sweet boy are as wonderful as they can be.
I’m sorry about your dog. I’ve had to pour several dogs down and last time I swore I would never get another one. But I did😉
I know a lot of people who wait as long as they can and the dog suffers for it. They think they are being kind but are really acting on their own self interest
