THE WEEKLY PAGE ๐ No. 196
Substack updates (!!!) + what to read, watch, listen to and enjoy...
Hello there! Itโs me, Dani ๐๐ป with number #196 of The Weekly Page! If things are lookinโ a little different for you this week, itโs because Iโm rolling out some exciting updates for 2024 โ a little early (I am who I am!).
When I first moved this newsletter over to Substack mid-summer, I wasnโt sure how I wanted it to mesh with other aspects of my business. But a solid six months in, I have a much better understanding of where I wanna go.
Iโve updated the title for my Substack to match my main business โThyme is Honey, although the name for this weekly correspondence will stay the same. There are some fun visual updates, too, which youโll surely notice below and when you visit the landing page โ where you can find entire archives of past editions:
If you typically read these in your email, pay attention to these icons at the top. They make it easy to pop over to the main site, share, or give it some love.
Tapping the little ๐งก icon at the top of these newsletter helps other people discover my work and I MAJORLY appreciate it. Help a girl out and give it a try ๐
๐ READ: Did you know that most of the clothes you return donโt actually end up with the producer or brand you bought it from?! This pertains mostly to big box/brand stores โ but most things go to processing facilities. The Atlantic recently visited one such facility in Pennsylvania, where over 40 million items (!!!) are processed annually, to see what actually happens to all that stuff we order, but donโt keep (spoiler: thereโs some pant sniffing involved). Read it here.
๐บ WATCH: My little sister arrives next Wednesday for the holidays (sheโs currently living near Frankfurt, Germany, and its nice to have someone nearby this year!), so last weekend we created a collaborative list of Christmas movies to watch and I had to put 8-Bit Christmas near the top of the list. It debuted in 2021, but instantly gave me โChristmas Classicโ vibes. Set in 1980s Chicago, the film follows a 10-year oldโs chaotic quest to secure the most iconic gift of his generation, a Nintendo. Watch the trailer.
๐ง LISTEN: I really appreciated this conversation between a Palestinian American (who is also a veteran and licensed social worker) and a Jewish American (who is getting her PhD in Clinical Psychology). This quote stood out to me, โItโs the shared trauma of Jews and Palestinians that gives me hope for a peaceful future.โ Listen here.
There were additional resources pertaining to Israel and Palestine shared in No. 189, No. 190, No. 191, and No. 194 and The Monthly Page for November.
๐งก ENJOY: This is a weird story but I recently got an orange-scented chapstick, and while drinking my daily maple latte I thought โHmm, a hint of orange is actually delicious with thisโ. One quick Google search later and I landed on this recipe for Orange + Cinnamon infused Maple Syrup from One Sweet Mess. It is SO good stirred into your latte + itโs super easy to make. Just trust me.

We discovered 8 Bit Christmas last year and it is a delight!!! My 11 year old has rewatched this many times and cackled his way through it. We tend to quote it all winter.
Iโm definitely trying that simple syrup!
