YASSSS. I was anti- petroleum jelly until the dermatologist recommended it as part of the treatment for my son’s moderate eczema. Vaseline is basically inert. And it works. I tried so many “natural” treatments for his eczema, including things like jojoba oil. But Vaseline, while not a treatment, keeps his skin mostly clear year round. So good and so inexpensive. I will have to add it to my own routine this winter (MN winters make my skin soooo dry.)

Yes, thank you for this! Its also apparently one of the best things you can put on scars or tattoos, according to dermatologists. And cheaper than pretty much anything else you'd buy.

I think it's easy to demonize it, especially if you were/are steeped in wellness/clean+green culture. But pulling back the curtain a bit and being open to changing your mind about certain things is really empowering.

Thanks for being here!

Thank you so much for going into the environmental impacts of this product. It’s something I’ve always questioned. But, a similar product aquaphor is the best I’ve found for my babes for pretty much everything.

Yes! Aquaphor is another great occlusive. There are some nice comparisons of Aquaphor and Vaseline online that I haven't dove into but my understanding is that they mostly function the same. Glad you found this helpful, m'dear!

This was super informative -- thank you for sharing! I would love to know what other products you use in your skincare regimen. I've tried a few, but everything has been prettttttty expensive.

Sure thing! I use coconut oil to remove eye makeup. Then I use:

This black clay face soap from Osmia Organics. Lasts forever - https://osmiaskincare.com/products/black-clay-facial-soap

Vitamin C Serum from One Love Organics - https://www.oneloveorganics.com/collections/face-moisturize/products/botanical-c-serum

And their coconut water moisturizer - https://www.oneloveorganics.com/collections/face-moisturize/products/skin-dew-coconut-water-cream

And their eye balm - https://www.oneloveorganics.com/collections/face-moisturize/products/botanical-e-eye-balm

Topped with Vaseline!

That's my usual routine. I do have some other serums and oils I swap in and out.
