The power of our mind + what to read, watch, listen to and enjoy...
You’ve heard it a million times, “mindset is everything.”
And I used to roll my eyes at that sort of messaging, but the older I get, the more I understand the sentiment. Everything we do starts with the thoughts we put in our own head.
My brain tends to lean a bit pessimistic, slightly anxious and perhaps a tad negative my default, and one of the most powerful tools I’ve found are the little recordings inside the Activations App.
Traditional meditation has never been for me. I really just cannot focus for that long. But throwing on an Activation? I love it. I call them “active meditations” because they are meant to be listened to while you do other things — fold clothes, cook dinner, do your makeup, walk the dog, drive the car.
And the entire time it’s just whispering positive affirmations directly into your ears ✨
Whether it’s a 3-minute pep talk or a 20-minute goal setting deep-dive, I can always find something that fits my needs and it’s made such an impact on my mindset over the past year that I literally told my therapist to try it out 😆 So I am, once again, telling you about it, too.
This gush session is in no way sponsored, but Activations has a very generous referral program (which you can get access to, too!) that gives you 25% off and me a $50 Visa Gift Card, which that if you still you haven’t tried this app, DO IT! Then you can tell your friends about it and make some $$$. You can also try it out for free with a 14-day trial. Here are a few of my favorites. Just search their titles in the app to find them:

HELP A MINNESOTA FAMILY IMPACTED BY ICE:
Exciting news! We were able to meet the $4,000 fundraising goal for Lourdes and her family. The organizers increased the goal to $12,000, in hopes that we can help recover some of the money that was lost to the scam lawyer, and help support this family a bit longer. Thanks to some great amplification of the post, it’s now sitting at over $9,000 — SO CLOSE TO THE UPDATED GOAL! Here’s her story:
Lourdes is a co-worker of one of my college classmates at a hospital in the Twin Cities area. She works as a housekeeper in a unit that cares for organ donors. She showed up for work one morning in early February, an hour after ICE had detained her husband, Anjel, at their apartment building — all of it unfolding in front of their three children.
Anjel has been deported to Mexico, and Lourdes has been left as the sole provider to their three children along with a significant loss of money to lawyer fees. Can you make a donation to get us to that final goal or share this with your network?
📚 READ: I grabbed this book a few weeks ago at a local book event. I was pretty surprised to see it propped neatly by the register because sometimes I have to hunt for newly released books in English! Glad I grabbed it, because EVERYONE is now talking about. So far, my feelings are a bit mixed but the plot is ingenious. Anne Hathaway bought the rights to the book before it was even released. Yesteryear follows Natalie, a “tradwife” who suddenly wakes up in 1855. Learn more and get a copy.
📺 WATCH: If you’re needing some relaxing, slow programming as we transition from Spring to Summer might I suggest “This is a Gardening Show”?! I have learned something new in every episode (grafting apples? what?!) and it has me excited to try growing some actual food and learning more about urban gardening. I love seeing Zach’s humor, and the same candor he brought to “Between Two Ferns” applied to the world of gardening. Watch the trailer here:
🎧 LISTEN: “If you aren’t talking to your family, someone else is.” This episode provides really simple and actionable ways to communicate effectively with people you love, but disagree with. Got a loved one who has been brainwashed by Fox news? This could help. Listen here:
🧡 ENJOY: In the latest post in my AI Series, I walk you through setting up an AI Health Coach in Claude. My step-by-step tutorial is right here for you. As you saw in that post, I’m trying to increase my protein and fiber intake, so this week I made these Creamy Gochujang Broth Bowls with Crispy Beef and Rice and they were DELICIOUS. These get a very enthusiastic thumbs up from us. FWIW I added a cup of spinach to each bowl, and used brown rice instead of jasmine. We had leftover sauce, and ate it the next night on whole wheat noodles with chicken + broccoli (also delicious!).
