In case you didn’t know — I’m an immigrant🤗
And our transition to life in a new country was made remarkably easier thanks to people who stepped up, opened their hearts and homes to us, and made us feel welcome.
So this is just a reminder that no matter where you live, there are most likely immigrants in your community. People who are trying to find their place, learn a new language and culture, and — no doubt — missing their home, their families, and everything that is familiar to them.
If you have the ability — consider connecting with them. Leave a note on their door with your contact information. Invite them over for a meal. Include them in a local outing or event. If they don’t speak English (or whatever your local language is), let them know that’s okay — offer to translate what you can if they’d like, but most importantly — just be okay with them observing quietly if that’s how they’re most comfortable.
Help them network and meet other people in your community. Offer childcare or pet sitting. Give them cuttings off your plants or vegetables from your garden. Let them know about organizations or free trainings that might be helpful. See if there’s anything they need next time you’re decluttering. Include them in your traditions and holidays.
Just because politicians want to make immigrants feel unwelcome, doesn’t mean we have to. If you appreciate me and the work I deliver to your inbox, please do me a favor and connect with an immigrant in your community to show you care 🧡
📚 READ: I really needed a feel-good escape from news headlines and my usual non-fiction reads so I dove into TJ Klune’s House by the Cerulean Sea and absolutely loved it! I went straight into the sequel, Somewhere Beyond the Sea and the stories are just so pure and fun! Highly recommend them if you need a good read (TW mentions of child abuse, foster care). Are there any similar books/series you’d recommend?! Let me know.
📺 WATCH: I was really pleased to hear Anora won best picture at this year’s Oscars (and that the lead, Mikey Madison, won best actress!). We went to it in theater a couple months ago and I absolutely loved it — I’ve described it as a modern version of Pretty Woman (with slightly more provocative scenes). (TW for drug use, domestic violence).
🎧 LISTEN: The Dream is back with a new season and in a recent episode they interview a young woman who left the anti-choice movement, only to find herself targeted and harassed by its leaders. Every time I thought this story couldn’t get worse, it did. Regular reminder that abortion is healthcare! Listen on Spotify or wherever you listen to podcasts.
🧡 ENJOY: Temperatures in Copenhagen have been in the mid-50s(F) the past couple days with blue + skies and sunshine and it feels SO much like summer! Nothing better after our typical long, dark winter and it has me craving summery flavors like these Key Lime Bars from Bake with Zola.

I’ve been reading the Gamache series by Louise Penny, which I might describe as cozy crime. It’s basically a thoughtful French-Canadian detective solving crime in a Gilmore Girlsian small town.
I'm so glad you loved The House on the Cerulean Sea!! Seriously, it's in my top 10 favorite books! Just a big warm hug.
