32 days until the election + what to read, watch, listen to and enjoy...
Alright team, we are currently 32 days out from the election, so here’s a quick reminder of small ways you can help turn out the vote!
🗳 Register Yourself + Help Others to Vote: Put in your information, and this website will tell you if you are currently registered to vote. If you aren’t, it will walk you through the steps to register. It can also help you find your polling place + other info.
💬 Talk to people: Even if you don’t door knock or phone bank, it’s vital to reach out to those in your circle. Sometimes people simply don’t vote because they aren’t sure if others are. Post and let people know you’re voting! Text 5 friends to ask if they need help registering. Encourage young people to vote for the first time!
❤ Offer assistance: Can you help at least five people get to the polls on election day by providing childcare or driving them to their polling place?
🤫 Quiet Canvassing: Write info about where to register (vote.org!) + an inspiring message on post-its and leave them in private places (like bathroom stalls). I talked about this more here.
🗽The States Project: Having good people in office at the state level is REALLY IMPORTANT, especially this year. If you’re worried that states could reverse or overthrow the will of the people (a la 2020’s attempted coup) then you’ll love what this organization is doing to ensure progressive majorities in key swing states.
🔋 Power the Polls: Elections don’t happen without poll workers, and as we saw in 2020, they can end up playing a vital roll in upholding democracy. Many cities are in dire need of more poll workers ahead of the 2024 election. This site will tell you how to volunteer in your city.
💸 Make Smart Donations: This app called Oath uses data analytics + expert political strategy to determine where your money will have the most impact based on the issues you care about. They do not sell or share your contact info.
Have a great weekend!
📚 READ: Devastation continues to unfold across five states from flooding caused by Hurricane Helene, which was made worse by global heating according to FEMA. If you are able to send donations, Blue Ridge Public Radio put together this great list of places you can donate.
Climate change is real and it is having real-life consequences every single day. These disasters always make me think of this post:
📺 WATCH: After last week’s Vice Presidential debate I rounded up 8 of my biggest takeaways and shared them over on Threads.
I also loved this 17-minute interview at the dog park with Tim Walz and his rescue pup, Scout. When asked if he thought having a dog made him a better leader, Walz responds, “Having a dog or pet makes you a better human. He counts on me. He’s loyal. He has unconditional love. I think that creates empathy we’d all like to see in every leader.”
🎧 LISTEN: I very recently got into listening to audiobooks while at the gym and after flying through Remarkably Bright Creatures (so good!) I instantly started The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo! It’s been recommended to me SO many times and I don’t know why it took me so long to finally dive into it — it’s great! The audiobook is included with a Spotify Prime membership, or you can learn more + get a paper copy here.
🧡 ENJOY: I see ‘October’ on the calendar and INSTANTLY start making pumpkin recipes. First one on the menu is this Thai Pumpkin Curry.
I have The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo on my list since so long. I got to make it my next read.
Thank you for bringing up the Spotify feature. Since you mentioned it (I don't remember when) I make sure that I use mine 15 hours every month. Sometimes I even start a book at the end of my month because I want to use up all the minutes and I continue it the next day with my new monthly hours, lol.
