Your brain on hydration + what to read, watch, listen to and enjoy...
At 25 (nearly 14 years ago!) I was overwhelmed, unhealthy, and exhausted. I’m not joking with you, I never had energy for anything. I struggled daily with headaches, brain fog, fatigue, and just an overall feeling of overwhelm. Do ya relate?
Hydration changed my life — my skin cleared. My eyes brightened. I could think faster, focus longer, and pursue the big dreams I (suddenly) had.
Next monthly I’ll be hosting Hydrating Habits — an online workshop where I combine my passion for hydration with my skills as a systems and efficiency expert and Mayo Clinic Trained Wellness Coach to help you gently build strong, hydrating habits that last.
And don’t worry — you won’t have to become one of those Giant Stanley Cup People (because, spoiler alert, they get A LOT WRONG about proper hydration).
Instead — I’ll teach you how to optimize hydration for cognitive benefits 🧠 Which are, by far, the most exciting part!
When we think of “drinking more water” most of us hope for brighter skin, healthier nails, watching the dark circles under our eyes disappear. We hope our daily headaches will stop, our digestion will improve, and maybe we’ll slow down the aging process a bit.
And while those physical transformations are incredible and make it worth it all on its own, the thing about hydration that really fires me up are the changes you can experience in your brain —– your cognitive functioning and mood state to be more exact. Those can impact ev-er-y-thing 👏🏻
When you start properly hydrating (I’ll teach you what this means 👀), you’ll likely notice the physical changes pretty quickly. You might even start to notice those improvements in your skin, nails, or digestion within a day or two.
But if you’re consistent, you’ll soon be amazed by the way hydration can change your brain. Hydration can help you:
⚡ Have an increased, reliable amount of energy
👊🏻 Do deep, focused work and solve problems more easily
💆🏻♀️ Enjoy a stable mood
🎨 Feel more motivated and creative
🧠 Experience regulated hormones
😩 Reduce feelings of depression and anxiety
⏰ Improve response time and memory
Mark your calendar! Enrollment for Hydrating Habits will open on September 6th.

📚 READ: I’ve lost count of the number of times Demon Cooperhead has been recommended to me — and happy to report that I’ve finally got a copy and plan to read it this fall. “Set in the mountains of southern Appalachia, it tells the story of a boy born to a teenaged single mother in a single-wide trailer. A voice for the ages — akin to Huck Finn or Holden Caulfield — only even more resilient.” Learn more here.
Have you read it? Leave a comment and tell me what you thought!
📺 WATCH: The Democratic National Convention Wrapped up last night, and the week was filled with big moments on the stage. The entire program could be streamed online, and you can currently watch an archive of all the speeches via the DNC YouTube Channel. Listen, I don’t think we should treat politicians as celebrities and I’m fully committed to holding them accountable to create a stronger, more unified country — but it’s hard not to admit that there are some incredible people who took the stage this week. The acceptance speech by Governor Walz had me nearly in tears:
🎧 LISTEN: The highlight of my week has been learning that Olympic boxer (and gold medalist) Imane Khalif has filed a lawsuit against TERF-extraordinaire JK Rowling, who wrongfully accused the female boxer of being a male, igniting days of online harassment. “JK Rowling” has since deleted her transphobic Tweets, giving us an idea of where this is going. On the topic of sex and gender in Olympic sports emerges this podcast series from Embedded called TESTED, all about sex testing in elite sports. We all have so much to learn and it’s an interesting look at its impact on female athletes. Learn more about it.
🧡 ENJOY: Happy to announce that Apple Season is officially upon us, folks — and starting in mid-September I will be living off salads comprised mostly of apples and goat cheese. Get some inspo with this Sweet Potato + Apple Fall Salad from Aftann Fit.

I'm the only person in my bookclub that didn't like it. I'll be curious to hear your thoughts.
Demon copperhead is sooo intense. One of those books in glad I read & I definitely still think about, but it was not a relaxing read 😅 I did also read it in like 2 days for my book club also which I don’t think I’d recommend to anyone!! Too much too fast. Definitely a book to let simmer & percolate. I hope you enjoy it!
