One of the first things I did when our dog, Walter, was diagnosed with terminal cancer was reach out to a local artist we love and commission her to paint a portrait of our family at one of our favorite spots in Copenhagen:
It quickly became one of our most prized possessions and I know it’s something we’ll cherish even more after he’s gone.
There are a million different ways to commemorate a loved one, but here’s a little nudge to support an artist by having portrait done if it would fill your heart with joy.

📚 READ: I don’t know why I thought a book about Nuclear War would be the uplifting page-turner I needed in this season of life….and yet, here we are. Annie Jacobsen does a brilliant job bringing together tons of information from the nuclear programs of all the world’s powers to lay out a very realistic timeline of what will happen if nuclear war breaks out. The book counts down and basically covers one hour in time — it’s riveting and hard to put down. Learn more here.
📺 WATCH: For years, people have claimed abortions harm women and have used this to pass laws restricting abortion access. But what does the data show? In this 14-minute TEDtalk, demographer Diana Greene Foster shares her landmark work following nearly 1,000 women, showing that over time there were worse health outcomes for women who were denied abortions. For years following childbirth, they experienced chronic pain, hypertension and worse overall physical health. Women who were denied abortions also experienced more socio-economic hardship, often falling below the poverty level and experienced higher rates of homelessness, eviction, and domestic abuse. Women who carried their pregnancy to term, but gave their baby up for adoption were the most likely to say they were struggling to cope with the experience. Watch it here.
🎧 LISTEN: In the 1960s, the Danish Health Authority led a campaign in Greenland to implant IUDs in the country’s Inuit population. In many cases this was without their consent, and happened to girls as young as 13. Women from Greenland are finally speaking out about this, and this podcast is a great summary of what happened. 🧡 ENJOY: Two things we love in this house: curry and Caribbean food. This Caribbean Coconut Curry Salmon Recipe from Butter B Ready is sort of the best of both worlds.
