THE WEEKLY PAGE 📝 No. 189
When the world is burning + this week's picks for work, wellness, and wonder.
Where do we even start on a week like this, friends? I’m sure that you’re hearts have been as heavy as mine.
It kind of feels like the world is burning.
What occurred in Israel last weekend is unfathomable cruelty. There aren’t even words for the fear and pain that the Jewish community is feeling.
As direct conflict with Hamas unfolds, we’re watching as countless Palestinian civilians are also caught in the crossfire.
Misinformation is running rampant and it’s vital to not help spread it in these early stages of conflict, so I’ve been careful with what I’ve shared. But a few posts, thoughts, and words have stuck with me all week so I wanted to share them here:
“We can and we must stand against the violence of Hamas and the violence of Israel and against the violence of the US…and still believe in freedom for Palestine. We cannot build a peaceful world by killing each other’s children. Violence only begets more violence.
And until every Palestinian and Israeli life is seen as equally precious and treated with mutual love and respect, there will not be peace in Israel.” - Shane Claiborne
”Old people don’t evacuate. At some point, you’d rather take your chances at home than try to escape. I think this is an international human truth. Every time I went into a place getting bombed, it was full of old people, disabled people, confused people. That’s who gets bombed.” - Megan K. Stack
There are a lot of important questions we all need to be asking of ourselves, each other, and our leadership right now. In this piece titled “Two groups of people are at war…and both are marginalized people”, by Gabrielle Blair of
offers valuable insight for all of us.And as always, writing by Heather Cox Richardson has been helpful with navigating the media landscape this week. I found her posts from October 7, October 9, and October 12 to be particularly helpful. They provide historical context for the conflict between Israel and Hamas, modern connections to Russia and Iran, and a summary of what has unfolded since last Saturday’s attack on Israel.
Sending strength to anyone reading this who is feeling helpless and frustrated by the state of the world. You aren’t alone.
Be sure to stay hydrated, breathe, and take time away from tv/social media.
📚 READ: I’m excited to share that we’ll be welcoming Deborah Porter to the list of guest speakers for my group program in 2024! Deborah is a certified Fair Play Facilitator, and will join us next August to discuss the mental load and domestic redistribution. Feels like a perfect theme for “back to school” season! If you feel like your partner or children to not carry their fair share of “the mental load” — this is for you! Deborah will help us understand how to begin the work of rebalancing the domestic and mental labor in our lives. The 2024 speaker lineup is almost 100% complete, however — I need your help! If you haven’t read Fair Play yet you can learn more about the book here.
Looking for a guest speaker (it’s a paid opportunity)! I am looking for a guest speaker for October 2024 who could give a 20-minute presentation on organization & planning for people with neurodivergence or living with someone with neurodivergence. If this is you or someone you know please reach out via email! Dani@Thyme-is-Honey.com
🎓LEARN: Enrollment will open next Friday, October 20th, for my group program! I’ll be teaching you the foundational aspects of wellness: 💦Hydration, 📝Organization, 🥗Nutrition, 👟Exercise, ♥ Your “Y”, and 😴Sleep — AND THEN walking you through my process for setting goals, identifying habits, and establishing strong systems for steady progress. All the information will be going out to my launch list along with an early bird discount that will only be offered there. Get on the list here.
🍲 EAT: Looking out my window this afternoon it is gray, dark, and rainy. I need no clearer sign that Soup Season™ has officially arrived. This week’s feature is this Spicy Miso and Carrot Soup — I love the intense umami flavor of the miso, and the “no-waste” approach of roasting the carrot peels for garnish.
