THE WEEKLY PAGE 📝 No. 186
Two upcoming events + this week's picks for work, wellness, and wonder.
This week’s “work” section is extra fun because I’ll be hosting TWO online events next week that are both work-related…and YOU’RE invited!
👩🏻💻Online Co-Working Session
Hop online and join me for an online co-working session. Never attended one? They’re a lot of fun and can provide just a bit of accountability while you work independently on a project or to-do list. There’s a doc where we’re introducing ourselves + sharing what we’ll be working on and so far it’s a delightful and eclectic mix! Bring your current project and join us!
It will also include a Q+A session where I’ll answer your questions about work, systems, efficiency and more!
When: Tuesday, September 19th at 9AM CST
Free for paying subscribers (costs $4 to upgrade).
✍🏻Getting Started with Substack
Curious about Substack?! Wondering how you can start a newsletter (like this one) and potentially turn it into a revenue stream? Join me for an online webinar all about Substack! I’ll do a brief overview of the platform along with a demo and then take your questions during a Q+A session at the end.
When: Friday, September 22nd at 9 AM CST
$15 to attend, and a recording will be provided.
It feels exciting, energizing, AND aligned to finally be hosting some community events like this and if they go well, there’ll be more in the future.
Have a great weekend!
📚 READ: I’ve been reading “Breath” by James Nestor and haven’t been able to put it down. If you know anyone who suffers from snoring, sleep apnea, or ADHD I think this book is a really fascinating look at the role proper breathing plays in our day-to-day health as well as various health complications. I appreciate that it’s easy too read (not too technical) and very entertaining. Read the synopsis here.
🥗 ENJOY: When fall hits, you’ll find me putting pumpkin or squash in basically everything. Bread, muffins, soup, PASTA! Kicked it off this week with this Spicy Butternut Squash Pasta. I followed the recipe kinda loosely and also added turkey sausage. Its delightful! Here’s the recipe for ya.
📚 READ: I regret to inform you (seriously, I’m sorry) that there is an online trend known as “Trad Wives” (short for “traditional wife”). It’s like the older sister of the “Stay at Home Girlfriend” and honestly….both make me wanna puke in my mouth. If you haven’t heard of this, buckle up.
recently did an amazing piece for Elle that chronicles what these internet trends say about the state of women and motherhood in America. “This doesn’t mean feminism has failed us. It means that legislatures largely controlled and influenced by men—many of whom believe in some version of biblical womanhood—have worked really hard to make a life of submission this attractive, and a life of agency this hard. They’ve rolled back reproductive rights, of course, but they’ve also stood in the way of the sort of childcare reform that would make parenting easier—not just for working moms, but for all parents. They’ve busted unions and suppressed the sort of labor protections that would put boundaries on the workday. They’ve ensured we’re the only developed country in the world without mandatory paid family leave. And it’s all very purposeful, if rarely articulated.” Read it here.📚 READ: Curious if your social media feeds are influenced by foreign disinformation campaigns? One way to know would be to assess what headlines you saw about the Maui Wildfires. Researchers from Microsoft recently released findings showing that campaigns from China pushed the narrative that the fires were not natural, but the result of a secret “weather weapon” being tested by the United States. Russia, on the other hand, had disinformation campaigns emphasizing how much money the United States was spending on the war in Ukraine instead of disaster relief for Hawaiians. Both campaigns had a similar goal: to spread discord and distrust amongst Americans. Read more about it here.

I thought Breath was great too! Every time I picked it up I was much more conscious of my breathing for the rest of the day 😂
