THE WEEKLY PAGE 📝 No. 175
A 5-step method for relaxation + focus + this week's picks for work, wellness, and wonder!
Before you dive into the week ahead, let's do a quick exercise to help you relax, enjoy your Sunday, and feel focused. Yeah?
This is a 5-step release method developed by British physician Dr. Chatterjee. To do it, grab a piece of paper and write down:
One thing about next week that you're CURRENTLY anxious about.
One PRACTICAL thing you can do to prevent or prepare for it.
One reason it's PROBABLY not going to be as bad as you fear?
One reason you know you can HANDLE it.
One upside of the SITUATION.
Ah, doesn't that feel better? Now that we've released a little of that end-of-week anxiety, let's move on to this week’s picks!
🥗ENJOY: One of the first signs of summer in Scandinavia is everyone sitting outside eating fresh “ærter” (peas!). You eat them straight out of the pod and they are delicious. And I'll be honest, I don't know how practical it is to put them on a flatbread as this recipe does — but it sure looks perdy! Either way, flatbread on the grill with cream cheese and lots of green veggies is a summertime MUST over here. Enjoy!
📚READ: Grief is one of the most difficult things we’ll try to navigate in this life. In the summer of 2019, Colin Campbell lost both of his teenage children in a car accident. In the months that followed, he and his wife often heard the sentiment “There are no words”. In this article for The Atlantic (as well as in his book, Finding the Words), Campbell chronicles what it's like to experience profound loss, and what you need from those who love you. This article brought me to tears in an airport lounge and made me think a lot about how our society treats the grieving.
📺WATCH: This is such a fun watch! There's a series available on Disney+ called “Europe From Above”. The fourth season has an episode featuring Denmark! We watched it this week and had so much fun seeing some of our favorite spots (including our neighborhood!) from an aerial view. We're going to watch more episodes as we start planning trips to some of these other countries — a great way to get inspiration on what to see and do! You can watch the trailer here.
📚 READ: I read “Building a Second Brain” recently and while it's a little dry and lost me a couple of times, I did have plenty of takeaways! If you are someone who consumes a lot of information (books, articles, podcasts!) and want to develop a system for organizing all that information, this book is a good place to start. If you've taken my course, Thyme Transformation, I'd describe this book as an “in-depth look at your Research Management System”. It'll go into more detail on ways to store and retrieve “digital knowledge” in a way that helps you continue moving forward on various projects. You can learn more here. (I'll try to summarize some of my main takeaways in blog posts and Instagram posts soon).
👏🏻WORDS: Wise words from the former host of What Not to Wear (loved that show!). The basis of this quote is simple: focus on the long game. The big goals. The overall vision you have for your life. Avoid getting distracted by instant gratification, dopamine hits, or following the crowd. Stay focused on what you want most.
